Noise Reduction

ISO 100, f/ 22, 4", Low noise reduction

ISO 100, f/22, 5", Standard noise reduction

ISO 100, f/22, 5", Strong noise reduction

ISO 800,f/22, 0"6, Low noise reduction

ISO 800, f/22, 0"6, Standard noise reduction

ISO 800, f/22, 0"6, Strong noise reduction

ISO 6400, f/22, 1/13, Low noise reduction

ISO 6400, f/22, 1/13, Standard noise reduction

ISO 6400, f/22, 1/13, Strong noise reduction

My camera reduced the noise well. We can see the difference of each noise reduction setting. I find that the pictures lose details with the low noise reduction. I would use the standard noise reduction setting when I'm shooting because I prefer working on the noise in Lightroom. The best setting was the strong setting because it really cleaned the image and it still looked focused.

Creative White Balance

1.
Auto WB

Tungsten light

Custom WB

2.

Auto WB

This image has like an orange colour.

Shade

This is really orange. Even the snow outside is orange.

White Fluorescent light

This one looks better. Snow outside looks nice and the orange is sill there but it's not as strong as the other images. The shadows are stronger .

3.

Shade

This image looks pretty normal to be honest. Even if the WB was wrong because I had to use the Fluorescent light WB. His face looks a little bit darker and I like that.

Assignment 1

Night shot

I like this picture because you can see the stars in the sky

Portrait

Landscape

I would've liked a clean sky.

I had a problem with my Sports and panning shots because I was supposed to shoot a hockey game but it got cancelled. I didn't have any problems shooting. The only thing is that it was really cold and having to go out at night to take that shot was pretty difficult.

Lab 3: Lenses

I have a Canon Rebel T3i camera with a EF-S 18-55mm 1:3.5-5.6 kit lens.

Part 1: Lens focal length

Still life:

Table top

18mm

Here we can see the distortion in the brim of the hat.
35m

55mm

Here I believe this is the best picture because the hat looks normal and the hard drive is clear.

This picture looks too zoomed in and I feel the hat does not look natural.

People

18mm

35mm
Here we see too much of the hallway and that can take away the focus of the image.
55mm

Still has too much distraction.

Here the image is nice and we can really focus on  the subjects.

Part 2: Focal length and Depth of Field

18mm f/22

35mm f/22
On the pictures we can see the DOF changes on the wall in the background. on the first image the wall is pretty  clear and on the last one the wall is more blurry.
55mm f/22

Lab 2: Aperture

Shallow DOF: ISO 400, f/ 3.5, 1/250 sec.

Medium DOF: ISO 400, f/9.0, 1/40 sec.
Here you can't clearly see the canon logo in the background.  You really focus on the hat. Little bit of darkness around the image.
Deep DOF: ISO 400, f/22, 1/6 sec.

Here you start seeing more details like the canon logo and the people sitting in the background. Still we don't lose the focus on the hat.

Here everything is in focus. Still the main thing in the image is the hat.

I believe my most effective image is the shallow depth of field because when I took the picture I wanted the main object to be my hat.

Blurry: ISO 400, f/4.5, 1/80 sec.

This portrait looks more dark and serious. I like this one because it's cleaner. I find the other one to be too messy and the surroundings are distracting.

Sharp: ISO 400, f/25, 0.4 sec.

Architecture: ISO 400, f/22, 1/30 sec.
